COIMBATORE: While BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu have been criticizing the actor Suriya for his statement against NEET, Dravidian costume Coimbatore leaders have come to his defense.
K Ramakrishnan, Secretary General of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, said that if Suriya’s statement in court, which she had made with the well-being of the students in mind, was a mistake, then the team “would also make the same mistake.”
“If Suriya’s statement is interpreted as a mistake, we will also repeat the same statement and also make the same mistake,” Ramakrishnan told TOI.
Ramakrishnan said Suriya’s statement was based on humanitarian grounds that driving NEET at a time when Covid-19 was rapidly spreading was wrong. How is this a crime? How is this contempt of court? he said in his statement.
The actor, in his statement on Sunday, said that the courts that were doing justice through videoconferencing due to the pandemic scare asked the students to sit for exams. Following this, the Madras High Court Judge, Judge SM Subramaniam, wrote to the Chief Justice of the HC, requesting contempt proceedings against the actor.
