Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina returned to India on August 29, and the franchise’s CEO, KS Viswanathan, said the left-hander had left the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for “personal reasons.” Viswanathan, in a tweet posted on the team’s official Twitter account, had also said that Raina would not be available for the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. However, a report has claimed that Raina was dissatisfied with her assigned hotel room and wanted accommodation similar to that of the CSK captain, MS Dhoni.

Speaking to Outlook, CSK owner and former BCCI president N Srinivasan compared cricketers to “prima donnas” but said Dhoni “was in full control of the situation.”

“Cricketers are like prima donnas … like temperamental actors from the old days. Chennai Super Kings have always been like a family and all the older players have learned to coexist,” Srinivasan said.

“My opinion is that if you’re reluctant or unhappy, come back. I don’t force anyone to do anything … sometimes success gets into your head,” Srinivasan said.

“I spoke to MS (Dhoni) and he has assured me that even if the numbers go up, there is nothing to worry about. He spoke to the players via a zoom call and asked them to stay safe. You really don’t know who a passive carrier, “Srinivasan said.

“The season has not started yet and Raina will certainly realize what she is losing and certainly all the money (a salary of 11 million rupees per season) that she is going to lose,” said the CSK chief.

CSK have been beset by problems even before the tournament started.

CSK’s preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League hit a snag after it emerged that two players and some members of the franchise staff tested positive for COVID-19.
