Cricketer Suresh Raina and singer Guru Randhawa were arrested at a club in Mumbai’s Andheri early Tuesday morning for violating Covid-19 regulations. They were later released on bail. An official said that interior and fashion designer Sussanne Khan was also booked after the raid.
Sahar Police Station Chief Inspector S Mane said: “A raid was carried out around 2.30 am on the Dragonfly Club near Mumbai airport. We found that guests and those who operated the club were not following lockdown measures, such as wearing masks or observing social distancing. We arrested 34 people that included seven staff members. “

The officer confirmed that they arrested Raina and Randhawa under Sections 188 (disobedience to duty of the order issued by the public servant) and 269 (acts that could spread an infection) among others. Since the sections could be bail, they were immediately released. “There were also some female celebrities, but we didn’t arrest them. They were given a notice and allowed to leave, ”added Mane.
After the arrest, Suresh Raina issued a statement., saying he was not aware of local schedules and protocols. “Suresh was in Mumbai for a session that lasted late into the night and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner before catching his flight back to Delhi. I was not aware of local schedules and protocols, ”Raina’s statement read.
“Once indicated, he immediately complied with the procedures established by the authorities and regrets the regrettable and unintentional incident. He always maintains the rules and laws established by the governing bodies with the utmost consideration and will continue to do so in the future as well, ”the statement said.
In the context of a new strain of coronavirus emerging in the UK, the Maharashtra government decided on Monday to impose a nightly curfew in all municipal areas of the state starting Tuesday night. The curfew will be in effect from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until January 5.
All stores, except essential services such as medical stores, must close at 11pm. All non-essential travel will not be allowed after 11pm. The state will deploy police on the road to ensure compliance. More than five people cannot gather outside during the specified hours.
