Calcutta:
A candidate named ‘Sunny Leone’ wants to obtain a BA in English Literature and has applied to enter two universities in West Bengal to enter the undergraduate course.
Authorities at the venerable Ashutosh College in Kolkata were horrified when they printed a list of applicants’ merits on Thursday and the name of the number one applicant was the Bollywood actor. And she was on top because of her terrific Class 12 board exams: 400 out of 400.
The fellow applicants were divided over what was clearly a joke, but the university authorities were not amused. They filed a complaint with the cyber police at the Calcutta police headquarters, Lal Bazar, demanding that they get to the bottom of this outrage.
Ms Leone, however, happily tweeted Friday from Los Angeles, United States, where she lives. “See you all at college next semester! Hope you guys are in my class,” he said and followed with three smileys.
The incident was repeated later that day at Budge Budge College, 35 km from Kolkata. A candidate named Sunny Leone had also applied there for the same course, but with lower grades than Class 12, which is why her name appeared on the fifth page of the merit list.
Police have registered a case based on the complaints and will begin an investigation on Saturday. While Sunny Leone’s appearance on the charts is clearly a joke, it has exposed flaws in the online intake system. Anyone can apply with false information and fill it with holes.
Ms. Leone’s tweet had 1,435 comments, 2,926 retweets, and 31.3K likes in 10 hours.
One fan said, “All of Kolkata will welcome you, ma’am. I will quit my job and accept admission again.”
