Chandigarh:
The safety of actor and BJP MP Sunny Deol has been improved days after he spoke in support of the government’s agricultural laws that have sparked mass protests from thousands of farmers on the roads near Delhi.
Sunny Deol, 64, will now have Category Y security, which means 11 staff members, including two commandos and police officers.
The Gurdaspur MP had previously been questioned for his silence on farmers’ protests.
Last week, he posted a statement on Twitter, saying the issue was between farmers and the government, but that some were trying to create trouble.
“I know that many people want to take advantage of the situation and it is creating problems. They are not thinking about the farmers. They may have their own agenda. I am with my party and the farmers and I will always be with the farmers. Our government always thinks about improving the farmers. farmers and I am confident that the government will guarantee the correct result after having discussions with the farmers, “tweeted Sunny Deol.
Farmers are protesting new laws that they fear will end the safety net of minimum support prices (MSP), or guaranteed minimum prices, and leave them exposed to exploitation by companies.
After Sunny Deol’s tweet, her father Dharmendra, a legendary actor who was also a BJP deputy between 2004 and 2009, posted: “It hurts me a lot to see the suffering of my farmer brothers.”
The 85-year-old former MP from Bikaner, Rajasthan, had earlier deleted a tweet saying the government should resolve the crisis quickly, after trolling.
Dharmendra’s wife, Hema Malini, also a BJP MP, has been largely silent on the protests.
