NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised the “strong and vibrant scientific community” as well as the “good scientific institutions of India” and said they have been India’s greatest assets during the Covid-19 pandemic. 19.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening function of the 2020 Grand Challenges Annual Meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that India is witnessing a decline in daily Covid cases and the growth rate of the infection and has one of the rates higher recovery rates at 88 percent.
Prime Minister Modi said the future will be shaped by societies investing in science and innovation, but this cannot be done in a shortsighted way.
“You have to invest in science and innovation early to reap benefits at the right time,” he said, adding that “the journey to innovation must be shaped by collaboration and public participation, as science will never thrive in silos.” .
Prime Minister Modi highlighted several measures taken by his government that have contributed to a better healthcare system.
“Take sanitation. Better cleaning. More bathroom coverage. Who does this help the most? It helps the poor and disadvantaged. It leads to a reduction in disease,” the prime minister said.
The annual Grand Challenges event brings together scientists and innovators from around the world to deliberate on solving key global challenges.
The 2020 summit, which was convened virtually October 19-21, calls for deeper scientific collaboration to solve global health problems with heavy emphasis on Covid-19 with an “India to the world” framework.
The three-day event will feature leadership talks, panel discussions and informal virtual conversations on topics ranging from scientific interventions to combat the pandemic, manage the pandemic, and accelerate the development and implementation of global solutions to combat this pandemic and prevent the next one. . Approximately 1,600 people from 40 countries are participating in this meeting.
