On Saturday, Congress appealed to its allies in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA), led by Shiv Sena, to refrain from commenting on the party’s leadership if they want a “stable” government in the state.
Acting Congress President Yashomati Thakur, who is also a minister, made the appeal after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) head Sharad Pawar said Rahul Gandhi’s leadership appears to lack “coherence.” Pawar’s comments came in an interview with the Marathi daily Lokmat.
In a series of tweets in English and Marathi, Thakur referenced interviews and articles from MVA leaders. “… I must appeal to the MVA colleagues if they want a stable government in Maharashtra, then stop commenting on the leadership of Congress. Everyone should follow the basic rules of the coalition. Our leadership is very strong and stable, ”said Thakur. “The formation of MVA is the result of our firm belief in democratic values,” he said.
The leaders of NCP and Shiv Sena have played down Pawar’s comments, saying they have no connection to the stability of the tripartite state government.
NCP spokesperson Umesh Patil said Pawar’s statement should be taken positively considering his age and experience. Thakur’s comment on the stability of the government is unnecessary. There is good coordination within the MVA. Recently, we saw celebrations on the first anniversary. [of the government]. The alliance recorded victories in the [legislative] council elections [on Friday]. ”
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that everything Pawar might have said about Rahul Gandhi has nothing to do with the stability of the MVA government. “I have always supported Rahul Gandhi when his leadership was being damaged. Sharad Pawar is a tall leader. Opposition parties in the country consider Pawar their leader. When an experienced leader like him says something, it should be seen as instructions. ”
