Stepfather rapes a 6-year-old visually impaired girl in Thane, Maharashtra | India News

SO: Police arrested a man for allegedly raping his six-year-old visually impaired stepdaughter in the Thane district of Maharashtra, a police officer said on Sunday (December 6).

The girl’s mother married the 44-year-old defendant, a resident of Mumbra township here, after her husband died about a year ago, Chief Police Inspector Madhukar Kad said.

In the past year, the defendant allegedly raped the girl several times when her mother went out to work, the official said.

He caused serious injuries to the girl’s private parts and when she resisted his movements, he threatened her with dire consequences, the official said.

A local NGO learned of the crime and approached the victim’s mother, who was aware of the crime and had confronted the accused, but did not alert the police before.

After some members of an NGO convinced the woman, she filed a police complaint against her husband on Friday night, after which the defendant was arrested on Saturday, police said.

The defendant has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).

On Saturday, a local court detained the defendant in police custody for a week, police said.
