Starting today, the national protest against agricultural laws begins


Congress has decided to launch a national protest starting Thursday against the two agrarian reform bills recently approved by Parliament.

The decision to agitate at the national level was made at a meeting of secretaries general and heads of states held at the Congress party headquarters in Delhi.

“Starting on September 24, Congress will launch an agitation across India calling on the government to repeal the black laws,” Congress leader AK Antony told the media after Wednesday’s meeting.

The two bills, the Farmers Agreement (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services, 2020 and the Trade and Trade in Agricultural Products (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, were approved by Rajya Sabha to Despite the uproar and strong protest from the opposition parties in the house.

These bills have already received the go-ahead from Lok Sabha and are now with President Ram Nath Kovind. Opposition parties have urged the president not to pass these bills. They want the government to withdraw the bills.

Various leaders and different party workers along with farmers have taken to the streets of India to protest against the bills.

On Tuesday, the opposition even boycotted Parliament over the Center’s refusal to accept its demand to withdraw the bills.
