SRK, Kajol statues to be erected in London’s Leicester Square as iconic ‘DDLJ’ turns 25


The protagonist of SRK-Kajol Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge it’s all set to complete 25 years of release in theaters on October 20. The romantic comedy drama produced by Yash Raj became a cult classic for Indian audiences and film experts take that with a blend of traditional Indian sentiments with modern sensibilities. , the film continues to be a favorite of a large part of the audience.

Now, as part of the celebrations, a bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be unveiled in London’s Leicester Square in 2021 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee.

The Heart of London Business Alliance in a statement said the “DDLJ” statue will be part of the “Scenes in the Square” film attraction in the heart of the UK capital.

“Scenes in the Square” features highly recognizable classic and contemporary movie characters, each immortalized in interactive and expressive bronze statues, some brought to life at night through lighting. The square was also the setting for a scene from the movie where the characters of Raj (Shah Rukh) and Simran (Kajol) cross paths for the first time, as strangers.

Fans of the film took to social media to celebrate the news of the statue’s unveiling.

Mark Williams, Director of Destination Marketing at Heart of London Business Alliance, said they are excited to bring the first film to feature Leicester Square as a location on the road.

“It’s great to add titans from international cinema to our path like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. This statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and the cultural bridges that cinema can help build, and we have no doubt that it will attract fans from around the world, “Williams said in a statement.

The statue will be unveiled early next year, when organizers hope Khan and Kajol can travel to be part of the special celebratory event.

The film is also the longest-running film in history and has been screened at Mumbai Maratha Mandir for over two decades.
