Srinagar: Two Jawans were martyred in a terrorist attack on the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday. Terrorists reportedly attacked the Indian Army’s Rapid Reaction Team (QRT) in Parimpora’s Khushipora, leaving two jaws injured.

The wounded security personnel were taken to a military installation in the nearby Shariefabad camp, where they succumbed to their injuries.

A defense spokesman said: “They (the wounded soldiers) were evacuated to the nearest medical center. However, they have succumbed to their injuries.”

“Being a very busy area, our troops exercised restraint to avoid civilian casualties and collateral damage,” added the spokesman.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir Inspector General said that Army soldiers were attacked by three armed terrorists, who managed to flee after the incident.

“Three terrorists started shooting at our army soldiers. Two jaws were seriously injured and reportedly succumbed to injuries. Jaish-e-Mohammed has an active movement here, at night we will identify the group. The terrorists fled in a car and they were armed. Two are probably Pakistani and one local, “said the senior policeman.

The attack occurred on the 12th anniversary of the Mumbai terrorist attacks on 11/26 and prior to the first phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in the Union Territory.

The DDC elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in eight phases between November 28 and December 19. The vote count will take place on December 22.

Meanwhile, India remembers the gruesome attacks that began on November 26, 2008 in Mumbai and lasted for four days.

On that fateful day, 10 terrorists from Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Toiba arrived in Mumbai by sea and opened indiscriminate fire, claiming 166 lives during a 60-hour siege of the city.

In particular, on 19 November, the security forces had neutralized four terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) at the Nagrota meeting in Jammu and Kashmir. JeM is a terrorist organization based in Pakistan.

The Jammu area police inspector general, Mukesh Singh, had said at the time that they were probably plotting a “large” attack and targeting the DDC polls in Union territory.
