Residents of a house in the Powai area here couldn’t believe what they were seeing after a spotted deer bumped into the sheet metal roof of their home. Forest officials said Sunday that the deer, possibly chased by a leopard, may have crashed into the house in the Hanuman Tekdi area in the process.
Forest officials received a call at 1.30 a.m. Sunday that a deer had crashed into the roof and landed inside a house in the Powai slum. The house is among the many similar ones located on a small hill. The deer fell onto the roof, crashed and fell inside.
A viral video shows the bewildered deer sitting by a LPG stove, a steel wardrobe, and an empty bed, while the blue light from a television, apparently turned on by residents before going to sleep, blinks.
An NGO member working to rescue urban wildlife said many in the town were shocked and awakened by the sudden noise of the deer crashing into the roof.
Forest range officer Santosh Kank said the deer fell through the slatted roof after another animal chased it. “We rescued the deer after the locals informed us,” he said. The deer was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park where it is being treated, he said.
No one was injured, he said, adding that four to five people were sleeping in the house when the deer crashed.
