- SpaceX chief Elon Musk said the company is working to fix the brightness of the company’s Starlink satellites.
Elon Musk, head of SpaceX, said the company is working to correct the brightness of the company’s satellites. The Starlink satellites launched by SpaceX are intended to provide global Internet access and their most recent satellite launch was on Wednesday.
Why are the satellites so bright? In response to a question about it on Twitter, Musk said it was due to the angle of the satellite solar panels and that SpaceX is in the process of fixing it now.
SpaceX plans to deploy a network of 12,000 satellites to transmit broadband Internet to Earth. Most of the satellites that are currently visible were launched in March.
However, the current orbital position of those satellites now makes it easier to see. These satellites are brilliant due to the size and distance from Earth.
To make satellites less bright, SpaceX is working on an umbrella to reduce glare from satellites for future launches:
Thank you! We are taking some key steps to reduce the brightness of the satellite by the way. It should be much less noticeable during increasing orbit by changing the angle of the solar panel and all sats get umbrellas starting at launch 9.

The umbrellas SpaceX is adding to satellites are especially important to astronomers. Without umbrellas, the reflection of light could affect photos taken with cameras for images of outer space.
