Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam will be cremated today (September 26). He will receive state honors at 11am at his country home in Tamaraipakkam, outside Chennai.

Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam will be buried on his farm in Chennai today with all the honors of the state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaswami announced on September 25. On Twitter, the CM said that SPB has found a permanent place in the hearts of people from Tamil Nadu and also across the country. SP Balasubrahmanyam breathed his last on September 25 at 1.04 pm.
His last rites will be performed by members of his family at his farm in Tamaraipakkam, near Red Hills at 11 am today.
SP Balasubrahmanyam’s remains were brought from MGM Healthcare hospital to his home in Kamdhar Nagar in Nungambakkam. Members of her family performed rituals and her body was kept for public tribute.
Several politicians, musicians and fans paid their last respects to the legendary singer at his home in Chennai. Since they appeared in large numbers, the social distancing was lost. Then, the municipal corporation officials did not allow them to keep his body in Nungambakkam for public tribute.
At around 7.30pm, he was taken to his country home near Red Hills for his final rites. Preparations are underway at the lodge.
SP Balasubrahmanyam tested positive for the new coronavirus in early August, after which he was admitted to MGM Healthcare Hospital. His condition deteriorated on August 13 and he was placed on ventilation and ECMO support. Although he tested negative in September, his lungs were severely affected.
SP Balasubrahmanayam passed away on September 25 after being hospitalized for 50 days. He was 74 years old.
