Singer and actor SP Balasubrahmanyam succumbed to the coronavirus on Friday. The 74-year-old actor was admitted to MGM Healthcare in Chennai in the first week of August after testing positive for coronavirus.
SPB’s son SP Charan told MGM Healthcare reporters: “SPB belongs to everyone. It will live in their songs. My dad passed away at 1.04 pm “.
A statement from the hospital read: “Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam had been admitted to MGM Healthcare on August 5 and began receiving life support measures from August 14 for severe COVID-19 pneumonia. He continued to be closely monitored by our multidisciplinary team in the intensive care unit. It tested negative for COVID-19 on September 4. In a further setback this morning, despite maximum life support measures and the best efforts of the clinical team, his condition further deteriorated and he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. With deep sorrow, we regret to report that he passed away on September 25 at 1:04 p.m. We express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, supporters and admirers for his loss during this time of anguish and pain. “
