If the system turns into a cyclonic storm, it could be called Burevi, a name suggested by the Maldives.

Officials noted that heavy rains in one or two locations may start over the Tamil Nadu delta and southern districts such as Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari on Tuesday and continue for two days. The Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts may receive isolated heavy rains on Wednesday.

Kerala alert

The districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha have been placed on red alert for Thursday given the probability of extremely heavy rains. Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki are on orange alert the same day for isolated heavy to very heavy rains.

Isolated heavy rain yellow alerts are in place for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki are on orange alert and Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kottayam on yellow alert.
