South Western Railway Begins Suburban Train Services to Bengaluru Airport | Bengaluru News


BENGALURU: In a great relief to passengers and airport staff at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), the South Western Railway began train services to the newly constructed railway stop station on Monday.
The first DEMU train left at 4.45 a.m. M. From KSR Bengaluru City to KIA stop station with passengers including Central Bengaluru MP PC Mohan and Bengaluru Divisional Railways Manager Ashok Kumar Verma. The train arrived at the KIA stop station at 5.50am.
SWR operates 10 trains a day to and from the KIA stop station. The facility is expected to benefit the airport’s 28,000 employees and passengers.
The elegant KIA stop station, built by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) at a cost of Rs 3 crore, has a reservation desk, lobby area, bathrooms with provision for passengers with reduced mobility, granite benches for eating, drinking water facilities, cafeteria and vending machines. Based on usage and acceptance, facilities will be upgraded to meet the travel needs of travelers and airport employees. Passengers can also check flight details at the stopping station itself.
BIAL operates shuttle bus services to and from the stop station, which is about 3.5 km from the terminal.
The fare for a ticket is between Rs 10-15. While the BMTC Vayu Vajra fare from Majestic to KIA is 235 rupees per ticket, a taxi ride costs around 800 rupees.
