Sonia Gandhi will miss the parliament session during the monsoons and will travel out of India for a medical check-up

Congress President Sonia Gandhi will travel out of the country for a routine medical check-up that could not be performed earlier due to the current pandemic situation, party officials said on Saturday.

The president of Congress will be accompanied by her son and party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Both opposition leaders will fail the next monsoon session in parliament that begins on Monday of next week.

HT had reported that many high-ranking lawmakers are likely not to appear at the long-awaited monsoon session of Parliament, due to fear of exposing themselves to the coronavirus disease despite the efforts of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha authorities to ensure a secure session.

The ongoing pandemic has raised concern among the leaders of all parties that have decided to bypass parliament. Two days before the session begins, India reported the world’s highest number of recorded Covid-19 cases (97,570) in a 24-hour span.
