NEW DELHI: President of Congress Sonia Gandhi has created three separate committees to discuss policy issues related to economic affairs, foreign affairs and national security, with the former prime minister Manmohan singh part of the three panels.
While former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and party leaders Mallikarjun kharge Y Digvijaya singh will be part of the economic affairs committee, Jairam Ramesh will be its convener.
The foreign affairs commission will include Anand Sharma, Shashi tharoor, Salman Khurshid and Saptagiri Ulaka. Khurshid will be the convener of the panel.
The national security committee will have the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, the leaders of the Veerappa Moily party, Vincent H Pala and V Vaithilingam, with Pala as its convener.
“The president of Congress has established three committees to consider and discuss issues and policies related to economic, foreign and national security affairs,” said an official statement from the AICC secretary general, KC Venugopal.
Incidentally, among the nominees in the committees are top party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Veerappa Moily and Shashi Tharoor, who were among 23 letter writers seeking organizational reform in Congress.
While Sharma is the chairman of the AICC’s foreign affairs department, Shashi Tharoor leads the party’s Professional Congress.
