- Apple has reportedly acknowledged display issues affecting iPhone 12 series models.
- Problems include yellow and green tint and sporadic flickering in some cases.
- It is unclear if the Cupertino company will issue a software fix or if it is a hardware issue.
Apple’s latest flagship line suffers from display issues, according to user reports and an internal Apple note.
MacRumors allegedly obtained an internal document shared with Apple’s service providers. The document suggests that Apple is aware of the reported green or yellow tones and flickering issues present in some newer iPhones.
Apple has reportedly asked service centers not to perform surgeries on these phones to fix the problems, suggesting that the company believes it is a software problem rather than a panel problem.
Users of Apple’s official forums first highlighted the problems in early November. One user claims that the tint problem occurs on an iPhone 12 when the screen brightness is less than 90%. “Black pixels do not turn off in dynamic scenes. In a static scene, the black pixels turn off after [a] a few seconds, “said the poster. You can see an example below.
Another Reddit user claims that his iPhone 12 Pro Max screen flickers under certain conditions. “It’s definitely not noticeable when watching videos or movies, even with the black bars on the sides, but now that I’ve seen it, I’m actually a bit upset,” the user writes. Reddit has many other user posts claiming similar problems with their new iPhones.
The iPhone 12 wouldn’t be the first phone to face display problems this year. Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE has also been criticized by some owners for the edgy touch register and zoom animations. Since then, Samsung has issued three firmware patches to fix the problem, but some users are apparently still facing problems. Previously, devices like Google’s Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3 series, and OnePlus 8 had some color cast issues.
It’s unclear when or how Apple will address these iPhone 12 display issues. If you own an iPhone 12 and you’re experiencing tint or flickering issues, let us know in the comments.
