‘Slithering like snakes … now silent’: Sena criticizes BJP’s silence on Kangana’s ‘terrorist’ comment

The Shiv Sena attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday for its silence on Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut’s tweet calling farmers protesting government-approved agricultural bills “terrorists.” El Sena, in an editorial in Saamana, said that the political party that “slithered like snakes” to what the actress said is now silent on the “insult” to the peasants.

After Rajya Sabha passed the bills amid the din on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a series of tweets, assured farmers that the MSP and government procurement of agricultural products will continue. Ranaut picked up one of PM’s tweets, describing the protesters as “the same terrorists who indulged in bloodshed even though no compatriot lost their citizenship due to the CAA.”

The actor later clarified that he did not call the farmers terrorists and challenged anyone to try it. On Monday, the actor tweeted: “Just as Lord Krishna has the Narayani Army, similarly Pappu has his Champu army that only knows how to fight based on hearsay. This is my original tweet, if anyone can prove that I called the terrorist farmers, I will apologize and leave Twitter forever. “

Without naming Ranaut, the editorial said: “The farmers who fight for their rights are ‘terrorists’, if someone says this, it is dishonesty. But the political parties that slide like snakes when an actress speaks, now keep silent before the insult of the peasants ”.

He added that farmers are called “dishonest” and “terrorists”, but what recourse they have then to commit suicide. In a veiled attack on Ranaut, the editorial said: “The farmers are terrorists, Mumbai is Pakistan, and the civic body is Babar’s army, and so on. He leaves other accusations but the BJP ruler should at least take off his mask for the insult of the peasants. This was our only expectation. “

He also asked if the bills presented by the Modi government were “revolutionary and historic”, why was coercion and the majority used to get the bills passed. The editorial added that the bills have led to “peaceful” protests by farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

“In Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, farmers have taken to the streets to protest against agricultural laws. They have blocked roads in many places. When all this happened in moderation and peace, what symptoms would it be to label them terrorists? He said.

Attacking the BJP further, the editorial added: “Farmers have been accused of lathi and cases have been registered against them. This is extreme. Even Babur’s army did not do so much oppression. But the people who have made this country ‘Sujalaam, Suflaam’, have been branded terrorists by a pro-BJP actress. If protesting farmers are terrorists, then did the government pass a new farm bill for all terrorists?

The Shiv Sena took different positions in both Houses of Parliament. When the bills were presented at Lok Sabha, the deputy from the Seine “welcomed” them. Later, when it was presented at Rajya Sabha, Sena took a critical view of the bills. Sena deputy Sanjay Raut said the party has taken a “neutral” position on the bills.

However, he raised questions about the bills in the editorial. “We never say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the enemy of farmers. The new bill has two faces. The government ended the brokerage in APMC and allowed farmers to sell their products even outside the markets, but who would buy them? This is the controversy. Big industrialists are now investing in the grocery business. This means that there is a possibility that farmers will now be caught in the new slavery of corporate companies.

“Farming has also been approved on a contractual basis, but the plan has failed in the US and Europe. Farmers fear they won’t get the lowest support price. The government says this will not happen. Everything is rumored, ”Shiv Sena said. If the MSP continues, why did a Union minister renounce agricultural laws and why have farmers taken to the streets to protest against the laws?
