Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday disapproved of Madhya Pradesh’s head of Congress Kamal Nath’s “article” comment against Minister Imarti Devi, saying it was “unfortunate”. “You cannot treat women with disrespect. Kamal Nath ji is from my party. But I personally don’t like that kind of language that Kamal Nath ji has used. I don’t appreciate it,” Gandhi said. “It is unfortunate.” Addressing a campaign rally on Sunday for the November 3 by-elections in the Dabra town of Gwalior, where the BJP has sent Devi, Nath said the congressional candidate was a “simple person” unlike his opponent, who was an “element”.
Days after LJP left the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance, RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav said he could accept Chirag Paswan’s help if needed once the survey results are released. The statement came minutes after Paswan’s party leader Prince Raj met Yadav and his mother Rabri Devi, prompting speculation about a new bond.
Meanwhile, in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend 12 physical and some virtual demonstrations, while Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to address the 18-22 demonstrations. The party leadership has appointed 30 star activists for the assembly elections in Bihar. Yogi Adityanath will start the campaign starting today, starting with the Ramgarh constituency. “We have received the calendar for the 20th and 21st, our CM will hold 3 demonstrations a day. On the 20th, Yogi ji will scrutinize the electoral districts of Ramgarh, Arwal and Karakat. On the 21st it will be in Jamui, Tarari and Paliaganj”, said Mrityunjay Jha, said UP CM media adviser.
On Monday, the Election Commission requested a “detailed report” from the Madhya Pradesh electoral director on Nath’s comments against a female candidate during an election event in the state. Addressing an electoral meeting on Sunday in the city of Dabra in Gwalior, where the BJP sent Imarti Devi, Nath said that the candidate for Congress was a “simple person” as opposed to the opponent who was an “element”.
Imarti Devi and 21 other MLA members loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia had resigned from Congress and the state assembly and joined the BJP in March, in the process of overthrowing the Nath government. “Based on the report received from the MP electoral director, we have requested a detailed report. It would be with the Commission on Tuesday. Based on it, the Commission would take an opinion,” said a senior EC official.
The National Commission for Women had also referred the matter to the Electoral Commission for it to take the necessary measures. “We received referrals from NCW, we had already requested a detailed report from the CEO, Madhya Pradesh,” said the EC official. The 28-seat by-election of the Madhya Pradesh assembly will take place on November 3 and the vote counting will take place on November 10.
