JD (S) leader and former Karnataka Prime Minister HD Kumaraswamy said the party has lost an “impeccable” politician. “The news of the suicide of the party leader and my brother SL Dharmega Gowda was a shock. We lost a politician with impeccable personality. May the Lord have mercy on the family and fans of Dharmagowda,” Kumaraswamy said in a tweet.
Recently disrupted, dragged down the well by Congressional MLCs
The development comes just days after the Karnataka Council witnessed a high-octane drama that saw Dharme Gowda being interrupted by Congressional MLCs.
The footage showed members of Congress dragging the 64-year-old low-key politician out of his chair and into the Chamber well. Legislators in Congress had accused the BJP of forcing him ‘unconstitutionally’ to sit in the chair after having presented a motion of no confidence against the Speaker of the House.
The death of Dharme Gowda is likely to set off a political storm in Karnataka, especially in the context of recent incidents. His brother SL Bhoje Gowda is also an MLC and is known to be a close confidant of Kumaraswamy.
