Six Pakistani Cricketers Test Positive for COVID, Training Suspended; NZC Says Visitor Breach of Protocol | Cricket news

CHRISTCHURCH: Six Pakistani cricketers tested positive for COVID-19 here, New Zealand Cricket announced Thursday, alleging a violation of biosecurity protocol by visitors who will not be allowed to train while in quarantine for the time being. .
A jumbo team from Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, arrived in New Zealand on Tuesday and is serving a mandatory 14-day quarantine period under the COVID-19 protocol.
“Two of these six results have been considered ‘historic’; four have been confirmed as new,” NZC said in a statement without disclosing the names of the players who tested positive for the dreaded virus.
The six members of the squad will be transferred to the quarantine arm of a managed isolation facility. Pakistan is here for three T20 Internationals and two tests. The series begins on December 18 in Auckland.
“As a consequence, the Pakistan team’s exemption to train while in managed isolation has been suspended until investigations are completed,” the NZC stated.
The local board also spoke of a protocol violation, but did not specify the exact nature of it.
“On the other hand, NZC has also learned that some members of the Pakistan team had violated the protocols on the first day of controlled isolation.
“We will have discussions with tourists to help them understand the requirements,” the NZC statement added.
At least 10 cricketers from Pakistan had tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the team’s tour of England earlier this year.
Before leaving Lahore, all members of the Pakistan team tested negative on all four occasions they were tested.
In addition to the senior team, Team A from Pakistan is also here to compete in a couple of four-day matches starting on December 10.
