Six members of Pakistan’s tour group in New Zealand test positive for Covid-19

Six members of the Pakistan tour in New Zealand reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

The tests were conducted on the touring contingent from Pakistan when they arrived in New Zealand on November 24. The results indicate that four of the positive results are new, while the other two are “historical”.

NZC also relayed that the Pakistan team had violated protocols on the first day of their quarantine at the isolation facility. The statement states that NZC “will have discussions with tourists to help them understand the requirements.”

It is unclear at this stage if the six who tested positive are players, staff members or others in the touring group. They will be quarantined in the managed isolation facility where Pakistan is based.

All members of the Pakistan tour team were tested four times before leaving Lahore and returned negative results. Fakhar Zaman was left out of the tour as a precaution after he had a fever before departure.

The Pakistan team was exempted from training in the managed isolation facility, but has currently been suspended until investigations are complete.

The tour was originally scheduled to begin with the T20I series, which was scheduled to begin on December 18. After that, two tests were scheduled in Mount Maunganui (December 26-30) and Christchurch (January 3-7).
