Former minister and congressional candidate for bye elections in Sira’s constituency, TB Jayachandra, said Monday that he tested positive for coronavirus and was hospitalized. The results of the bye survey in Sira in Tumakuru district, along with Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru city, will be released on Tuesday.
“My wife tested positive for COVID, so I also took a test and the report has confirmed that I am too positive. So it will be difficult for me to attend the count tomorrow,” Jayachandra said in a video message on his twitter take care of.
He also asked his fans to attend the counting process in his absence and expressed confidence in the victory. Jayachandra has been admitted to a private hospital in the city.
The by-election had been necessary in Sira after the death of JD (S) B legislator Sathyanarayana in August.
Jayachandra (71) confronted BJP’s Dr. CM Rajesh Gowda, a radiologist and son of former congressional deputy CP Mudalagiriyappa, and JD (S) ‘Ammajamma, who is the wife of the late MLA Sathyanarayana in the vote that took place on November 3.
Jayachandra was Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Minor Irrigation in the previous Congressional government led by Siddaramaiah and had lost to Sira in the 2018 Assembly elections against Sathyanarayana.
Meanwhile, in RR Nagar, Congress sent H Kusuma while the BJP sent Muniratna, who defected from Congress in 2019.
