Celebrated singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is on maximum life support after his condition deteriorated in the past 24 hours, MGM Healthcare hospital in Chennai said in a medical bulletin on Thursday. The singer’s close friend, actor Kamal Haasan, visited the hospital Thursday night. SPB, as the singer is affectionately called, has been in the hospital since August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19. The 74-year-old singer no longer has the coronavirus, tested negative on September 8, but could not be disconnected from the ventilator due to the condition of his lungs, Balasubrahmanyam’s son SP Charan said earlier this month.
SP Charan has been sharing health updates about his father on social media and has been optimistic in recent weeks. A day ago, he wrote on Instagram that SP Balasubrahmanyam was making “steady progress” and was undergoing physical therapy. SPB was “eager to leave the hospital as soon as possible,” wrote SP Charan.
