The team led by Dinesh Karthik chased the 143 goal with 12 balls to spare. For KKR, Gill and Eoin Morgan were undefeated with 70 and 42 respectively.
“I think the plan was simple, I was just looking to prepare and get my team to the other side of the line. The goal wasn’t that big, so it was important to me to stay there and as a batting unit I think we all did. . well, “Gill said during a virtual press conference.
“It is important for any starter to see his team pass and that was the plan. It is up to the team to know who will start or not. From now on, we stick with Sunil Narine; he has been fantastic for us in the past.” added.
Before the press conference, Gill also spoke during the post-match presentation, where he was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
“I think the ball didn’t spin a lot and (it was) easy to hit the ground. I’ve been practicing hard hitting for the past few years,” Gill said.
“I think it was important for us to win. We really bowled and had to back it up with a good performance. There were no long conversations with Morgan. We were just trying to anticipate what bowlers can try and do.” added.
KKR restricted the SunRisers to just 142/4 as all of their bowlers put on a clinical show. Pat Cummins was the top bowler as he finished 1-19 from his quota of four overs, bagging Jonny Bairstow’s wicket.
Cummins had a poor performance against the Mumbai Indians, conceding more than 50 runs in their four overs, but was able to bounce back against Hyderabad.
Speaking of Cummins, Gill said: “He’s a world-class bowler, probably one of the best bowlers in the world, he played very well … a strange day we don’t care.”
So far, KKR have played two matches in this year’s IPL and the team has won one match. The side led by Dinesh Karthik will face the Rajasthan Royals on September 30.
