Iyer injured his left shoulder while attempting a dive stop during RR innings and had to leave the field due to severe pain.
“He (Iyer) is in pain, but the good thing is that he can move his shoulder. I haven’t talked much to him. Tomorrow we will have a proper report,” said substitute captain Dhawan, who led the team to victory in Iyer’s absence.
“At one point it was pretty even and getting him back from there was a team effort. It was important that we stay positive as a team. He knew his hitting is not deep and if we got his superior order, we can do it.” India.
Dhawan was all praise for his pacemakers, including Purple Cap winner Kagiso Rabada (18 wickets) and the fastest bowler in the world. Cricket Anrich Nortje.
“We always want them to deliver what they are delivering,” said Dhawan.
He also praised rookie Tushar Deshpande.
“He showed courage. The line and the length he threw was incredible. We have to keep up the momentum. It is a long tournament. We will continue the process,” said Dhawan.

Losing captain Steve Smith pointed out that the slowness of the track is one of the reasons for the loss.
“It was disappointing. The wicket slowed down a bit as the game progressed. We got off to a good start with Jos (Buttler) and Stokesy (Ben Stokes), then we lost a couple of wickets and got another partnership between Stokesy and Sanju (Samson). On the other hand (we lost) terrain in groups and on slow terrain it’s hard to make up too many runs in the back, “Smith said.
“We needed to take it a little deeper from some of our hitters and we couldn’t do that. We thought we pitched well on the back end and restricted them to 160-odd; that was probably around par on this wicket,” said the skipper from the Royals.
