Showdown in LAC: India rejects China’s demand, but keeps talking | India News

NEW DELHI: While India and China maintain stable but confrontational positions in the east Ladakh, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday that “the immediate task is to ensure a complete withdrawal of troops in all areas of friction.”
The two sides are reportedly participating in high-level talks to resolve the standoff. According to the sources, China has been calling for a reduction in armored and artillery units before the withdrawal. That is unacceptable for the Indian side because China has a much easier route to reassemble its troops, unlike India.
“India and China continue to have discussions through diplomatic and military channels to peacefully resolve problems throughout LAC in the border areas between India and China. This is in line with the agreement reached between the two foreign ministers during their meeting in Moscow on September 10, “MEA spokesman Anurag Srivastava told a news conference.
Srivastava also referred to the latest round of diplomatic parliaments between India and China on September 30 and the seventh round of military talks on October 12.
“The two sides have reiterated their desire to maintain dialogue and communication through military and diplomatic channels, and to reach a mutually acceptable solution for the disengagement as soon as possible,” he added.
