Shooter Shreyasi Singh joins BJP ahead of Bihar Assembly elections

Shooter Shreyasi Singh, daughter of former trade union minister Digvijay Singh, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party leader Bhupendra Yadav at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday.

Singh, a gold medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and a silver medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, is expected to be the match candidate, either from Amarpur (Banka) or Jamui, depending on the seat shared with alliance partners.

The national chairman of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Chirag Paswan, currently represents the Jamui parliamentary constituency.

Singh was part of the Indian team at the 2013 Trap Shooting World Cup held in Acapulco in Mexico. His late father was president of the National Rifle Association of India. He hails from the Jamui district of Bihar and this is his first step into politics.

His late father, however, served as the Union’s deputy minister for the finance ministry and the foreign affairs ministry. In 1998, he became Union Minister of State, Ministry of Railways, in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He then served as Minister of State in the ministries of trade and industry, railways, and foreign affairs.

Putul Kumari, Shreyasi Singh’s mother, is a former deputy from Banka.
