Windows: The best things in life are free, right? Fun to get some extra Wendy’s nuggetsI prefer free stuff that can give me over 100 hours of entertainment. And that’s why I’m excited to see everyone get a free copy of the critically acclaimed (and addictive) Total War: Shogun 2, a game that combines super fun top-down world management with incredible real-time military battles.
I don’t even want to think about how much time I have spent Total war franchise from the first Shogun: total war debuted in 2000. Now, there seems to be a “Total War” game for almost any franchise or time frame you can think of, including Warhammer, but only Age of Sigmar, not 40K. (A child can dream.)
Total War: Shogun 2 It could have come out in 2011, but it’s still a great way to spend an afternoon (or two, or many). And if you’ve never played any of the Total War games before, this couldn’t be a better way to get into the franchise. Although they all have their own quirks and characteristics, the core gameplay is still pretty similar – control your empire by issuing turn-based commands through a charming top-down map and jump into a real-time fight with your (hopefully ) gigantic army whenever it is Diplomacy stops working.
The only caveat for these games is that, well, they are not Star boat. Smart battle tactics are recommended, as simply running all of your melee units forward like Zerg probably won’t win you many battles. Allow the enemy army to eat a healthy spread of your arrows, Gladiator-style, before distracting them with your infantry so you can cut them from behind with your cavalry is recommended. At least, this is how I forged my empire in feudal Japan.
To get a free copy of the game, simply press Steam before May 1 (10 a.m. PT), add it to your cart and complete the transaction. That’s. You will have it for the time you want to play, which will be at least a month if you are not completely erased in your first battles. And if that is the case, I implore you to keep the game; It takes a while to master your basics, but once you do, you will be making your way to victory.
