Shiv Sena’s Senior Leader’s Wife Appears Before Anti-Corruption Agency

PMC bank scam: Shiv Sena leader's wife appears before anti-corruption agency

Shiv Sena’s leader Sanjay Raut’s wife, Varsha Raut, skipped previous citations citing health problems.

Mumbai:

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s wife, Varsha Raut, appeared today before the Directorate of Enforcement in Mumbai for questioning in a money laundering case. She had been cited at least three times before in connection with the loan scam at Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank. Ms Raut, however, had skipped showing up until now citing health reasons.

She was finally asked to appear on January 5 and now she has arrived for questioning the day before.

The anti-corruption agency wanted to ask Ms Raut about the “receipt” of some funds allegedly diverted from PMC Bank, official sources had previously said.

The agency had filed a case under the Money Laundering Prevention Act to investigate an alleged loan fraud at PMC Bank in October involving the Housing Development Infrastructure and its developers and others.

The Shiv Sena, part of the ruling Maharashtra alliance, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), along with the NCP and Congress, had previously alleged that central investigative agencies had unfairly attacked them.

Former BJP leader Eknath Khadse, who recently joined Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was also summoned by the Directorate of Enforcement previously for a land deal in the Bhosri area of Pune.

“The importance of ED, CBI or the Department of Income Tax is decreasing. Previously, when this agency took some action, it seemed that there was something serious. But during the last years, it seems that the action of this agency occurs when a El party is taking out its anger, “Raut had said a few days ago.

The Sena leader had also said that he had a file in the BJP with 121 names, which he would provide to the Directorate of Execution. “There are so many names that the DE will have to work for five years,” Raut said.
