Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday attacked the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as it completed its first year in office, saying it had failed in all respects. . He said the government has been unable to address the Covid-19 pandemic, solve farmers’ problems and has not made progress on development projects.
“The government of Maha Vikas Aghadi has achieved nothing this year,” he said. He added that they say they will rule the government for five years, but have not complied with governance. “The achievements of this government are only stopping all development works in the state.”
Fadnavis listed the projects that his government started but have been stopped. He asked Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray to stop threatening the opposition and show governance instead. Thackeray on Friday warned the opposition against personal attacks and vindictive politics while criticizing the BJP for the attacks on his family. In an interview with HT, he called the personal attacks “low and perverted tendency of his [BJP] politics”.
Fadnavis said the BJP does not carry out personal attacks or target the families of political opponents. “We have never made personal attacks. If we talk about personal attacks, Shiv Sena leaders have attacked my wife, but I have never made a fuss about it. The BJP does not believe in personal attacks, but if the family is in politics then political issues will be raised against them, ”he said. Fadnavis advised Thackeray to behave like a prime minister and not make threats.
He cited the Supreme Court ruling granting journalist Arnab Goswami bail in an incitement to the suicide case and the Bombay High Court’s observation that the Mumbai civic body’s action to demolish a part of actor Kangana’s bungalow Ranaut was illegal and has bad intentions.
Fadnavis added that they are not demanding the government of the president, but the two rulings highlight “a breakdown of the constitutional machinery and the abuse of power.” “We do not subscribe to the thoughts of Arnab Goswami and Kangana Ranaut, but we are against the attitude of repressing those who speak out against the government.”
Fadnavis said that MVA constituents, Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena lack coordination and called it an “unnatural” alliance. “They [Shiv Sena] remember the promise that was not given [by the BJP] for the post of prime minister, but they have forgotten the promises they made to the farmers. The government has not provided any help to farmers … “
