Shiv Sena leader says Urmila Matondkar will join the party on Tuesday

Urmila Matondkar had unsuccessfully challenged the 2019 Lok Sabha election on the Congressional ballot

Actress Urmila Matondkar, who had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a congressional ballot and later left the party, will join Shiv Sena on Tuesday, a party official said.

Harshal Pradhan, a close aide to Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray, said on Sunday that Matondkar will join the party in the prime minister’s presence.

Urmila Matondkar’s name has been referred to the Governor of Maharashtra BS Koshyari by Shiv Sena for nomination to the Legislative Council for the Governor’s Fee. The Maha Vikas Aghadi tripartite government (MVA) has also submitted the names of 11 other individuals for nomination for the governor’s quota.

The governor has yet to approve the list of 12 names.

Urmila Matondkar had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha’s 2019 election from the North Mumbai constituency as a candidate for Congress. However, he later left the party for the running of the Congressional unit in Mumbai.

Recently, he had criticized actor Kangana Ranaut for comparing Mumbai to Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and for the issue of nepotism.
