Maharashtra’s ruler Shiv Sena insisted on Tuesday that it remains a Hindutva party, upholding the ideology whenever necessary.
“We don’t need to get our Hindutva certification from anywhere. We were; we are and always will be pro-Hindutva. We don’t play Hindutva politics like they do. When the country needs us, Shiv Sena will always show up wielding the sword of Hindutva, ”said Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, after paying his respects to party founder Bal Thackeray on his eighth death anniversary.
Shiv Sena ended his decades-long alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party last year to form a government with the help of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra.

Raut said that Shiv Sena’s leadership was carrying forward Bal Thackeray’s teachings and ideology. Raut added that Thackeray spearheaded the “sons of the earth” issues, which are now being invoked by political parties across the country. “Balasaheb addressed the issue of children of the soil and unemployment 55 years ago. Today, the same issue is the mainstay of all social and political movements. The recent elections in Bihar also focused on these two issues.
Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his family and political leaders of all parties paid tribute to the founder of the Seine.
Raut separately criticized demands to change the name of New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in honor of Swami Vivekananda, calling it a vindictive policy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a statue of Vivekananda on the JNU campus last week.
Raut said that the Center should establish another university and give it the name of Vivekananda. He added that Nehru’s legacy cannot be undone by renaming the institutions. “Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru has always been the pride of this country.”
