Houston:
A boat parade in Texas in support of President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign ran into trouble Saturday as several boats took on water or sank, authorities said.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office “responded to multiple calls related to boats in distress during the Trump parade on Lake Travis,” he said on Twitter. “Several ships sank.”
There was no evidence of foul play, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kristen Dark said. No injuries or medical emergencies were reported at the parade in Lake Travis, located northwest of Austin.
“Some were drinking water, some were stagnant, some were capsizing, they were all sorts of different things,” Dark said.
Photos on Twitter showed ships with Trump 2020 flags in rough waters, likely due to the large number of ships moving in close proximity.
“There were an exceptional number of boats on the lake today,” Dark said, adding that authorities were still collecting data on how many boats sank and how many people were rescued.
More than 2,500 people marked themselves on Facebook for attending the Lake Travis Trump boat parade, which Dark said was two to three miles long.
The parade, which took place over the Labor Day holiday weekend in the United States, featured four paratroopers jumping out of a helicopter with smoke and flags, according to the event’s Facebook page. The ships were asked to travel at 10 miles per hour.
