Congressman Shashi Tharoor is well known in the country for his rather broad vocabulary. Very often, he uses words that most of us haven’t even heard of, but that make headlines every time we find out.
This time it was no different, Tharoor was in his prime responding to a request from author Chetan Bhagat. Today morning Tharoor had posted the link to an article written by the author of ‘3 Mistakes in My Life’ on how the country’s youth need to focus more on lousy GDP rates rather than decoding the endless conspiracies and controversies of Bollywood.
Needless to say, Bhagat was extremely elated to have received praise. Besides thanking him, he also made a small request. “Just a request sir, next time, can you use some big words to praise me, like those only you can do? Superb is good, but a big one would really make my day,” he said in the tweet.
The deputy from Thiruvananthapuram happily complied and drew the big guns to answer his request. Here it goes.
Now this is not just a random collection of words like in the famous song from the movie ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ called ‘My Name is Anthony Gonsalves’. The words used in Tharoor’s tweet really do have meaning. ‘Sesquipedal’ means a polysyllabic word, ‘Rodomontade’ is boastful, ‘convolutions’ means complex, ostentation means to be pretentious, ‘limpid’ is clear, and ‘insight’ is cunning.
For obvious reasons, under his tweet, there were memes galore. Netizens posted memes and not only to appreciate its verbosity, but also to know the meaning of words and pronunciation.
No doubt that was what Bhagat must have had in mind when he wanted great words to pour out his praise. This will be something to appreciate in the future.
