The chairman of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sharad Pawar, said that the former head of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, appears to lack the “coherence” necessary to be accepted as leader by the country.
“There are some questions here. There seems to be less coherence, “Sharad Pawar said in an interview with the Marathi newspaper. Lokmat when asked if the people of the country were willing to accept the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
On the question of Rahul becoming an “obstacle” for Congress, Pawar said that the leadership of any party depends on what kind of buy-in it has within the organization. “If you look at the mentality of the rank and file in Congress, even today they have affection for the Gandhi-Nehru family. Because Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi represent the family, most of the party cadres are behind them, ”Pawar said.
Pawar also said that while opposing the BJP, the Opposition needed to moderate its attack on a particular person and instead come up with its own alternative vision of governance to reach the people. “Attacking a particular person will not work. When we talk about creating an alternative, we need to think of an alternative vision of what we will be offering to the people and what our programs will be, ”Pawar said on the issue of how the Opposition could raise a united front against the BJP. .
On the issue of succession within her own party, Pawar said her daughter, MP Supriya Sule, was more interested in national politics. “Her interest is not in state politics, she is more interested in national politics,” Pawar said.
