In a shakeup for the leadership of the Trinamool Congress ahead of Bengal’s assembly elections next year, TMC rebel leader Suvendu Adhikari tendered his resignation as state transport minister on Friday. In an order issued by the state transportation department late Thursday, Banerjee was named the new chairman of HRBC with “immediate effect.”

State government sources had said that Adhikary, who is currently staying away from the party and the government, had resigned as HRBC chairman on Wednesday.
