New Delhi, May 9: Union Interior Minister Amit Shah wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to allow trains with migrants to reach the state.
Shah in his letter noted that Bengal was not allowing trains with migrants to enter the state.
While Mamata Banerjee had said she would initiate all aid to recover the people of Bengal who are trapped in different parts of the country, in reality, many are still stuck.
In Haryana, dozens of migrants register to return
Following the order of the Government of India on April 29, which allowed states to recover their migrants, Bengal has done little to comply with the order in letter and spirit. While hundreds of trains run across the country and carry migrants, in Bengal as of Thursday only two trains had arrived with around 2,500 migrants. Both trains were run based on the request of the home states, Kerala and Rajasthan.
On May 4 Karnataka had complained that Bengal refused to consent to the trains.
Maharashtra filed a similar complaint on May 6. States cannot send trains unless the other state agrees.
