KARACHI: Another seven Pakistani cricketers, including Mohammad Hafiz and Wahab Riaz, selected to travel to England, tested positive for COVID-19, bringing their total to 10, PCB said on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the seven had positive results: Kashif Bhatti, Muhammad Khasnayn, Fahar Zaman, Muhammad Rizvan, Imran Khan, Hafiz and Riaz. Shadab Khan, Hyder Ali and Haris Rauf on Monday returned with positive results.
“This is not a good situation, and it shows that these are 10 healthy and young athletes … if this can happen to the players, it can happen to anyone,” said Vasim Khan, general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Council (PCB). press conference.
He said a support staff member, massage therapist Malang Ali, also tested positive for COVID-19.
Khan said players and officials will now gather in Lahore, and another round of trials will be held on June 25, and a revised roster will be announced the next day.
According to him, the detachment is due to leave on June 28 for a series scheduled for next month.
“This is a concern, but we should not panic at this time, since we have time,” Khan said.
He said players and officials would be checked upon reaching England.
