Bangalore:
Karnataka’s chief deputy minister, Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan, has said that the state government is in the process of introducing bills against the “jihad of love” and the slaughter of cows.
“Many states have already submitted the bills. We are also in the process of submitting bills against the ‘jihad of love’ and to impose a ban on the slaughter of cows,” Ashwath Narayan told ANI.
The topic of “love jihad” has been in vogue for the past few weeks after the death of a 21-year-old college student, who was allegedly shot by a stalker and his friend outside their university near Delhi in October.
Recently, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, passed the UP 2020 Illegal Conversion of Religion Prohibition Ordinance to curb religious conversions for the sake of marriage.
This came after the Cabinet of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath passed the Ordinance on November 24, proposing a maximum punishment of 10 years for crimes related to “love jihad.”
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also proposed enacting laws to curb “forced religious conversions”.
The BJP government in Karnataka will reportedly introduce a bill against cow slaughter during the next legislative session. Earlier, the issue was discussed at a cabinet meeting held in Bengaluru.
