Chaos broke out in the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday with lawmakers who opposed Vice President SL Dharmegowda in the presidency, mistreating him. The Council has been adjourned sine die.

As the Council met on Tuesday, the vice president of the Janata Dal (Secular) was seen taking the chair to start the proceedings. However, congressional lawmakers accompanied President K Prathapchandra Shetty, after which they forcibly tried to evict the deputy from the chair, sparking the uproar. The president, meanwhile, adjourned the session sine die after which all the legislators withdrew from the House.

In condemning the incident, BJP leader S Prakash called the action “unfortunate”. He said: “The Legislative Council is known as the House of Elders and responsible behavior is expected from members of all parties. Dirty politics have taken hold of the Council, leading to the president not resigning on his own after Congress lost a majority to the union of BJP and JD (S). “

Meanwhile, Congress MLC Prakash Rathod said the vice president was “evicted” because it was an “illegal session.” Rathod explained: “The BJP and JD (S) illegally seated him in the chair when the House was not in order. It is unfortunate that the BJP is indulging in unconstitutional behavior. Congress first asked him (vice president) to step down from the presidency, after which we had to evict him as it was an illegal session. “

Lawmakers from all parties are now holding separate consultations to plan the next step. The presentation of the contentious bill against the slaughter of cows It is also in limbo at the present time, due to the heated events.
