Scuderia Ferrari have struggled all season, but they took the disappointment to a new level this weekend. Three horrible free practice sessions were followed by a terrible qualification.
As a result, Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel started the race at P13 and P14, respectively. Team boss Mattia Binotto remained optimistic that they could perform better on race day.
But just a few laps later, it became quite apparent that Binotto’s dream was not going to be realized. Both Ferraris seemed lacking in pace, and their struggles were best illustrated by a certain overtaking Vettel suffered.

The 4-time world champion moved to P13 after the race started. But it soon became clear that he wasn’t going to scale many places in a hurry. On the contrary, he was fighting to keep the cars behind him away. However, he was unable to do that for long.
Kimi Raikkonen’s overtaking over Sebastian Vettel sums up Ferrari F1 problems
Vettel’s former Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen now in an Alfa Romeo looked much faster. Beating Vettel, the ‘Iceman’ easily edged out the German at the end of the Kemmel straight. Raikkonen took advantage of the DRS, jumped on the inside, pushed Vettel for the longest lap, and in the end, he kept the movement going around the corner.
What made Ferrari and its fans look even more disheartening was that the overtaking was done by a car with the same engine as theirs. The move simply encouraged Ferrari’s fall from grace, and boy, was it a massive fall.
Just a year ago, Charles Leclerc was celebrating his first F1 victory in the cockpit of the Scuderia. Let’s go back another year, it was Vettel who won a race at Spa. Fast forward to today, both drivers can’t even get into the top 10. It is simply shocking!
With Ferrari’s 1000th F1 race coming up, at its local Mugello circuit, it seems increasingly likely that the day will end in great disappointment.
