Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been put on red alert before the Pakistani-backed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed plans to carry out attacks on the army and paramilitary forces on Monday. Security forces expect terrorists to carry out the attack with a car bomb or suicide bomber.
The highest security in Kashmir coincides with the terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen that names Ghazi Haider, also known as Saifullah Mir, as the next chief head of the terror group in Kashmir to replace Riyaz Naikoo, who was killed in an encounter this week.
“Ghazi Haider is a nom de guerre. Ghazi means Islamic warrior, Haider is brave, ”said a security official in Kashmir, adding that operations to locate the new Hizbul chief would begin soon. The terrorist team has also prepared its second line of leadership. Ghazi Haider would have a deputy, Zafar ul Islam, and a chief military adviser, Abu Tariq Bhai.
For now, the immediate priority of the security forces is to neutralize the Jaish-e-Mohammed threat to the convoys of the security forces on May 11. The terrorist group has been planning possible attacks on Monday for days. Last week, according to intelligence reports, Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Jaish’s de facto chief, had met with his handlers at the Pakistan Army’s Inter Service Intelligence.

Security officials said the May 11 election for an attack coincides with Ramadan on the 17th day when the Battle of Badr was fought and won by a few hundred soldiers in Saudi Arabia. In Islamic history, it is seen as a great victory in the early days of Islam and a turning point.
It is also the 22nd anniversary of the second round of Pokhran nuclear testing in India in 1998, when India became a nuclear weapons state with the ability to deliver nuclear devices in the air and on the ground.
Jaish-e-Mohammed, which has a large proportion of foreign terrorists in its ranks, is expected to use local Kashmiris for the bombardment, as he did in the Pulwama car bomb attack last year that targeted a convoy of CRPF soldiers.
This reduces the cost of a terrorist attack for Pakistan-based terror groups, a Kashmir police officer said. It is also convenient because it helps supporters in Pakistan claim that the attack was carried out by local cashmere and is part of, as Prime Minister Imran Khan calls it, an indigenous resistance movement.
Counter-terrorism officials in North Block said the Northern Army commander and the heads of the Central Reserve Police Force and Jammu and Kashmir police special operations groups had already been sensitized to the possible attack.
As a precaution, all convoy movements have been subjected to strong monitoring and will move under strong protection with the highway opening parties in accordance with the procedures. This will keep everyone safe, an official said.
