Schools will be closed until December 31


New Delhi: In the wake of the massive increase in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Friday that all schools in its jurisdiction will remain closed until the end of this year, that is, December 31, 2020. However, schools may reopen as of November 23 in other parts of the state, in strict compliance with all safety protocols. “All schools in BMC’s jurisdiction will be closed until December 31st. The decision was made in the wake of the increase in coronavirus cases in Mumbai. Schools will not reopen on November 23, ”the ANI news agency said, citing Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar. Previously, the government led by Uddhav Thackeray had allowed students in classes 9 to 12 to attend schools from November 23 onwards.

The Maharashtra government had also asked the railways to allow teaching and non-teaching staff to travel on Mumbai local suburban trains once normal classes resume in the state from 23 November.

Additionally, the state’s Department of School Education had published a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) prior to the reopening of schools in the state as of November 23.
