Schools in some states will resume classes beginning Sept. 21 after a gap of nearly six months. According to the guidelines of the center, this will be the first step towards the resumption of educational institutions. Only seniors can come to the school voluntarily if they need guidance from their teachers. Schools in containment zones cannot resume classes.
Guidelines for reopening schools
* Students will need written permission for parents to attend schools.
* There will be no assembly, there will be no events. Coffee shops won’t open either.
* It is recommended that classes be held in an open area.
* Schools will operate at 50% capacity. Online classes will continue.
* Mandatory thermal screening and hand disinfection at the entrance
* Deep cleaning of all kinds.
* The school pools will remain closed.
* Only asymptomatic students and staff will be allowed.

Are the states ready?
Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh have decided to resume classes. State governments have issued separate guidelines for resuming classes. Preparations are underway to disinfect classrooms, install social distancing marks, etc.
However, the rest of the states have decided not to resume physical classes and continue with online classes.
The AAP government was initially in favor of allowing upper classes to attend schools, but notified on Friday that schools will remain closed until October 5.
On Saturday, Rajya Sabha MP from Congress, Ahmed Patel, demanded that a working group be set up to frame the guidelines for holding online classes for school children. The deputy also urged the government to help students from the weakest sectors of society who do not have access to computers or smartphones.
