According to the Unlocking Guidelines 4.0 issued by the Government of India on August 29, schools can be reopened from September 21 onwards. The center has approved the reopening of schools for students of higher classes, that is, classes 9 to 12 on a voluntary basis to receive guidance from their teachers. However, the Government of India had mentioned that it is not mandatory to reopen schools from 21 September.
In addition, the center on the Unlock 4.0 guidelines has also mandated that the final call to reopen schools as of September 21 will be taken by the respective states. While many states plan to open schools this month, some are not ready to take any risks given the pandemic. Those states that plan to reopen schools starting next week will need to follow all SOPs issued by the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the The Unlock 4.0 guidelines also suggest that schools may open after September 21, 2020 for teachers and non-teaching staff in special circumstances. However, regular classes will not start now until September 30, 2020. Schools could reopen with 50 percent of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The SOPs published by the Minister of Health have also prohibited sports periods, assemblies or the opening of canteens on school premises. The faculties can also be functional for graduate and doctoral scholars, but will also remain closed for others.
