Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday ruled out reopening schools in the national capital for now. “Schools are not reopening for now,” Kejriwal told reporters on the sidelines of an event. The government had previously announced that schools will continue to be closed until October 31 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Universities and schools across the country have been closed since March 16, when the Center announced the closure of classrooms across the country as part of measures to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.
On March 25, a blockade was imposed across the country. Although various restrictions have been relaxed in different phases of “unblocking”, educational institutions remain closed. However, under the “unlocking” phase guidelines, states can get a call about reopening schools in phases.
Previously, schools could call students in classes 9 to 12 to school on a voluntary basis starting on September 21. However, the Delhi government decided not to.
Speaking of the AAP government’s decision not to pay CBSE examination fees this year, Kejriwal cited funding shortages due to the pandemic.
